I’m genuinely curious as to why more shows like ‘Bored To Death’ aren’t being made. I know damn well that I’m the exact demographic for the show, but that’s beside the point. There should be more shows that challenge us and make us think. I get the feeling we’re living in two America’s where there’s one that understands Two & A Half Men and there’s one that understands this. There might also be the demographic that understands Antiques Roadshow. There should also be a small but virile demographic that ‘totally gets’ the CMT show “Trick My Truck”, which is hypnotic, if you have ever seen it. This is why someone like Kanye gets it, because he knows how to hit more than one base at a time. That’s sort of why we’re resilient as a cultural force - those under 35. And I don’t think it’s something that we give ourselves credit for (at large, anyway). That’s sort of why “hipster” as a word has been turned into a bullshit term, because it’s telling us to resent being young and awesome. I dunno. I’m tired of weird terms about sects. It’s a thing. “Hipster” means you don’t think that irony is how you would describe the taste of a penny. It means you may have read a Vonnegut novel. Get over it. Don’t get all squirrely.
